David discovered his interest in clay while an undergraduate at the University of Montevallo in Alabama. Nineteen years ago the hobby turned into a full time profession.  For the last 14 years David has operated a studio on Glades Road in the the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. With over 100 shops this 8 mile loop is the largest group of independent artist and craftsmen in the United States. Visit Treasures in Earthen Vessels at 815 Glades Road.

David's work is traditional folk pottery reminiscent of the late 1800's.  The philosophy of the work draws from the painter Matisse: "Superflous detail encroaches upon the essential."  In other words, the beauty is in the simplicity of the shape and color.

David's craft was featured in Southern Living Magazine in November , 2007, "Tennessee Edition".  Period reproduction pieces were used in the feature movie Tom & Huck. This was a 1995 period movie based on Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas. He has won awards from the Foothills Craft Guild and two from the Gatlinburg Fine Arts Festival as Best Artist in Clay.
